What is Multi-Level Marketing?

It can be understood easily by comparing it to the usual “single-level” type of marketing. In a single-level marketing, sales agents work for a company, if they make sales to customers, they get paid commissions.

Companies rarely allow their sales agents to refer other sales agents—a privilege reserved only for sales managers.

In a Multi-Level Marketing company, newly recruited sales agents are allowed to recruit others who are interested in promoting the products. Everyone is free to dream big and establish their own teams or sales network.

The company then establishes a compensation plan for paying distributors. You can earn commissions from your own sales, and from the sales of your referrals (1st level), and from the sales of your referrals’ referrals (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on…).

A lot of people don’t like this idea and will even argue that the reason they don’t want to join MLM business is because of this. They don’t want to bug their friends and family members with products or business opportunities.

But what if the product is so good?

What if your loved ones really need it, will you not share the product?

There’s nothing wrong with marketing to your network, especially if the product is good and something you can be proud of. It’s actually a way of helping others, and we’ve seen a lot of people enjoy this business just because of that.

Most MLM companies, they provide their distributors with brochures, either for free or for a small fee.

These brochures can sometimes take the role of a talkative salesperson. Or, at least help you in establishing step 1 to 3 in the sales process—grabbing the attention of your customer, creating interest, and making him want the product.

Once you see your customer salivating on your product (figure of speech), take that opportunity to close the sale. Ask for the order, or hand your customer the order form to fill up.

Brochures are powerful. I personally know of shy-type of persons who are doing great in direct selling and network marketing just depending on the power of brochures.

Of course, you must join companies that have these tools.

In today’s Internet age, some companies substitute brochures with websites. They act like brochures to website visitors, and the amazing thing about websites, they can take orders for you!
